Fly ‘n’ Ride: Route 66

The 2,448 mile Route 66 or the ‘American Highway’, as it is known, is perhaps one of the most famous roads in the world. Stretching all the way from Chicago to Los Angeles, it is a route that has featured in and influenced great swathes of 20th century popular culture, from John Steinbeck’s ‘The Grapes of Wrath’ to the classic song ‘(Get Your Kicks on) Route 66’, which was originally recorded by Nat King Cole and has since been covered by over 50 other artists. The history and romance of this road is a huge draw, and presents perhaps the great American road trip for any newly qualified biker who wants to feel the freedom of the open road – and has time and money to spare!

New British Motorbike Champ: Danny Kent

The UK hasn’t produced a motorbike world champion since 1977, when Barry Sheene claimed a 2nd consecutive title riding for Suzuki in the 500cc class. All that changed in November, with 21 year old Danny Kent being crowned world champion after the final race of the Moto3 Grand Prix in Valencia. Kent had needed to finish 14th in the final to clinch the title but started in 18th place. He crossed the line in 9th, with Portuguese rival, Miguel Oliveiria winning the race. The result meant that Kent took the title by 6 points.
